Reflections Along the Way

From the Desk of Steve Macchia

Dear Friend,
I trust your Lenten journey has been meaningful to you and yours. Perhaps you “gave up” a worldly pleasure or “added” a spiritual practice to help you intentionally focus your heart on Christ. Or, if you didn’t make such a decision, you’re still earnestly in pursuit of God in this holy season. At LTI, we don’t prescribe the “best” way to handle Lent, but we do encourage all of our friends to devote time and space to prayerfully reflect on the forgiveness and redemption offered to us in Christ. Holy Week is just around the corner and its here we embrace the reality of Christ’s abundant life, his sacrificial suffering, and his miraculous resurrection. His life was offered so your life can be redeemed and transformed…for that we shout “Alleluia!”

Your brother on the journey,

Steve Macchia

LTI Ministry Highlights

Is spiritual formation a priority in your congregation and community today? It’s challenging for leaders to infuse their ministry settings with transformational practices necessary to bring about heart and soul change in healthy, life-giving ways. In this Symposium we invite leaders and teams to explore readily applicable pathways that will aid you in facilitating biblical, contemplative and Trinitarian priorities with those God has called you to serve.

This symposium offers 8 sessions of interactive instruction and collegial dialogue around the process of enfolding and infusing Spiritual Formation into the life of your church or community. A creative mini-soul sabbath and optional spiritual direction appointments will also be offered.  Limited to 40 participants.

Are you ready to be formally trained as a spiritual director? Join us in Selah! We gather for 5 residencies over a two-year period: Selah-West meets in warm and sunny Arizona, and Selah-East meets in New England (spring residencies) and North Carolina (fall residencies). There's still time to apply with just 2 spots available in the Selah-West cohort; Selah-East has begun a waiting list. Check out the website for all the dates and locations.
The Selah Certificate Program in Spiritual Direction consists of:
  • 5 retreat residencies of 3-4 nights each: theological and practice-based instruction, peer group spiritual direction, time for silent prayer and reflection, daily communal worship
  • Spiritual direction (monthly; received on your own, and offered by you to others under faculty supervision)
  • Supervision by Selah faculty (regular and ongoing for the full two years)
  • Curricular reading, writing, and practice assignments designed to deepen our prayerful reflection, conversation, and practice.
  • Community: 12-15 individuals journey through the program together as a cohort

The Voice of Jesus | May 22-23
A Soul Care Retreat
"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me." —John 10:27

Yes there is that voice, the voice that speaks from above and from within and that whispers softly or declares loudly: 'You are my Beloved, on you my favor rests.' It certainly is not easy to hear that voice in a world filled with voices that shout: You are no good, you are ugly; you are worthless; you are despicable, you are nobody—unless you can demonstrate the opposite.
—Henri Nouwen (Life of the Beloved)

Join us for a one-night soul care retreat of being still in the presence of Jesus. In spacious places, find a quiet spot to listen for the voice of the One who calls us Beloved. The retreat begins at 9AM Tuesday and concludes at 1PM Wednesday and will include small group sharing, worship, fellowship, teaching, prayer, and times in silence and solitude. It is designed to provide a spiritually enriching environment focused on spiritual formation, discernment, and renewal.
Facilitator: David Wu
Location: Holy Name Retreat Center, 430 Bunker Hill Road, Houston TX 77024

Our Church Health Assessment Tool (CHAT) has helped nearly 500 churches conduct a church-wide listening exercise.  We praise God for the ability to leverage the technology available to us today to help church leaders listen well (and without much effort!) as they discern the road ahead.  We firmly believe that in order for leaders to be effective, they need to be good listeners…to God, to one another as discerning leadership teams, and to all whom they serve.

If you haven’t seen CHAT for yourself or your local church, it might be just the right time to do so – and we guarantee it will be well worth your time! Is your church ready for a church-wide listening exercise?  Download our Free Guide to Church Assessment today.
