Reflections Along the Way

From the Desk of Steve Macchia

Dear Rick,
Summer is always a great time to read for refreshment and renewal. With our staggering pace of life, leaders easily get enveloped by the demands of daily routines and the ever-present needs of others. Taking time to more leisurely savor a good book, article, or even spend lingering, prayerful moments in the Scriptures, is really good for the soul. I hope you’ll take many opportunities during these summer months to prioritize the care and nurture of your soul…and encourage others to do likewise. At LTI, we’ve been creating new materials since our inception nearly 13 years ago. Today we have over 100 books, articles, and dowloadable retreat and reflection resources created by the LTI team and available in our online store. These LTI products are in addition to the more than 350 vetted books in 25 spiritual formation categories in our Amazon store. Taste and see that the Lord is good, and drink often from the well of refreshment we’re happy to provide…and, lean fully into a restful, relaxing summer.  Visit

Stock Donations: One of the Most Tax-Efficient Ways to Give
A charitable contribution of long-term appreciated securities — i.e. stocks, bonds and/or mutual funds that have realized significant appreciation over time — is one of the most tax-efficient of all ways to give. This method of giving has become increasingly popular in recent years. The two key advantages:
  1. Any long-term appreciated securities with unrealized gains (meaning they were purchased over a year ago, and have a current value greater than their original cost) may be donated to a public charity and a tax deduction taken for the full fair market value of the securities — up to 30% of the donor's adjusted gross income.
  2. Since the securities are donated rather than sold, capital gains taxes from selling the securities no longer apply. The more appreciation the securities have, the greater the tax savings will be.
