Reflections Along the Way

From the Desk of Steve Macchia

Dear Friend,
This September marks for me the 37th year in a row that I’ve been a part of leading a ministry context into a new ministry/academic year. It’s hard to believe it’s been so long, especially since I don’t feel that old! For LTI, this fall is our strongest start up in our 12 year history. All of our programs are experiencing growth at the same time! We commenced the academic year with a full group of 60 Pierce Fellows on three campuses of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and a new (and full) cohort of Selah interns in our brand new Selah-West spiritual direction certificate training program in Phoenix, Arizona. Selah-East in New England also has a full roster. In addition, we’ve commenced a new year of retreats with our (full cohort with a waiting list) Emmaus spiritual leadership community.  God has been blessing and multiplying the work of our hands in so many marvelous ways…and we give him all the praise, honor and glory!
With a grateful and joyful heart,

Steve Macchia
Founder & President

PS - I'm excited to announce that my latest book with InterVarsity Press, Broken and Whole, will officially release in January 2016.  We are offering special pre-order pricing for a limited time.

LTI Ministry Highlights

The 2015-2017 Selah cohorts have begun at full capacity!  We praise the lord for these spiritual directors in training through Selah.
Selah-East: 2015-2017 (New England)

Selah-West (first cohort!): 2015-2017 (Arizona)

Selah's Certificate in Spiritual Direction is offered in two geographic cohorts (Selah-West and Selah-East) and consists of:
  • 5 retreat residencies of 3-4 nights: instruction, peer group spiritual direction, time for silent prayer and reflection, daily communal worship
  • Monthly spiritual direction (received and offered)
  • Monthly supervision by Selah faculty
  • Reading, writing, practice assignments designed to deepen our prayerful reflection, conversation, and practice.
  • Community: 10-14 individuals make up a cohort
Is there a spiritual director inside of you?  Contact us today and let's explore that question together!
More About Selah

The 9th cohort of Emmaus (pictured below) has just completed their first of four retreats for the 2015-2016 Pilgrimage Year which covers Spiritual Autobiography (retreat 1), Spiritual Leadership (retreat 2), Spiritual Practices (retreat 3), and Spiritual Renewal (retreat 4).
We are so grateful for these Emmaus companions and the ways God is using this community to shape one another in profound ways.

Emmaus is a retreat-based leadership community ... and the only thing missing is YOU. Start planning now to join us next fall if you are looking for:
  • A more contemplative lifestyle in the midst of the growing demands of leadership
  • A caring, listening, and discerning community of sacred companions
  • Ongoing development to help you care for the souls of others in your ministry context
The next cohort kicks off fall of 2016 delving into the "Pathway Year" which covers Spiritual Attentiveness (retreat 1), Spiritual Formation (retreat 2), Spiritual Discernment (retreat 3), and Spiritual Community (retreat 4). Come and journey with others who hunger for rest, renewal, encouragement, and deeper spiritual companionship. An optional Certificate in Spiritual Leadership is offered to those interested in enhancing their Emmaus experience.
